Al-Hol camp, northeast Syria
An estimated 65,400 people are held in Al-Hol camp –more than 90 per cent are women and children; two-thirds of the camp’s population is under the age of 18. In these overcrowded conditions, where an average of seven people share a tent and health facilities have closed as a result of the knock-on effects of COVID-19. Al-Hol camp is not well prepared for an outbreak of COVID-19. An isolation facility has been built but it isn’t ready for use.
