Liberia : MSF Monrovia hospital
Liberia was one the three countries infected by the worst Ebola epidemic triggered in 2014.
The French section of MSF did not have the direct objective of providing care to patients with Ebola, but decided to focus on non-Ebola-related morbidities for the population under 5 years of age.
The objective is to maintain secondary health care unrelated to Ebola in the context of the presence of this disease. The integration of our services into the health map of Monrovia is also an important aspect.
Survivors of Ebola continue to face problems in accessing adequate medical and mental health care. The stigmatization of survivors, especially during outbreaks, is heightened and health workers are haunted by the fear of being contaminated.
The Monrovia project have as principal objective the reduction of infant mortality and morbidity to the children under 5 years old and for the newborns in Montserrado County by providing quality and free secondary health care.
And also the objective for the reduction of medico-psychological disorders related to the Ebola virus.
It’s a reference hospital for general pediatrics (children under 5 years old). There are 104 beds, the hospital assure emergencies, intensive care unit, neo-natalogy and nutrition health treatment. There is also an Ebola survivor clinic.
