YEMEN/2019/Behind the Frontlines of Hodeidah

In early 2018, fighting opposing Ansar Allah troops and forces supported by the coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates intensified along the frontline between Taïz and Hodeidah. The coalition-backed forces continued to advance on Hodeidah, until the offensive on this city was launched on 13 June 2018. Following this offensive, MSF teams opened in August a surgical field hospital in Mocha, Taiz governorate, to provide emergency medical care to war wounded from the Hodeidah and Taiz frontlines.
The MSF field hospital in Mocha remains the only health facility performing emergency surgery on the local population in the area. Teams are also treating pregnant women with complicated deliveries that require urgent surgery. Since MSF opened its hospital in Mocha, its staff have provided more than 2,000 emergency room consultations and performed around 1,000 surgical procedures. Guillaume Binet, French photographer, went to Mocha for MSF to report on the situation.
