Building trust with the communities in an Ebola affected region
Infection prevention and control has become the daily work of MSF medical teams at the hospital, who explain that hospitalizing patients in a separated area is meant to stop the spread of all infectious diseases, including tuberculosis, or cholera. Patients who present symptoms similar to Ebola can be placed in the
high risk zone, until they are qualified as a suspect case and referred to a specialized structure, like in Butembo.
An essential part of infection prevention and control is improving the hygiene in the health centers: MSF teams help local teams by providing them with chlorinated water, or train them on the importance to wash hands and medical devices carefully.
